Why cork flooring?
The desire to phase out fossil fuels in favour of renewables is only part of the narrative surrounding sustainability. Where we can we should be adding to how carbon is captured, not simply replacing that which is cut down to satisfy consumer demand. Take the materials used for the manufacturing of flooring. Whereas solid or veneered timber flooring requires trees to be chopped down, cork bark for cork flooring does not. This is because cork bark is harvested from the cork oak tree by stripping the bark with axes. As a result no trees are felled, and the cork tree can live for 200 years. This not only benefits us now but enriches future generations. Cork flooring is not only good for its sustainability and thermal comfort, but also helps in the protection of allergies.

Hydrocork floor buildup

Amorim Hydrocork is a water-resistant floating solution that combines low thickness and extreme performance with all the comforts of cork.
Easy to install with its innovative PressFit compression system it is the perfect solution for renovation projects. Suitable for domestic or commercial applications.
At just 6mm thick Hydrocork is the perfect choice on refurbishment projects, where the existing floor surface is retained, and floor to ceiling heights are restricted or maximum height is to be achieved.
Not recommended for use in permanently wet areas such as saunas. However, it is possible to use Hydrocork in areas such as bathrooms and kitchens as the exposure to water is relatively low.

Amorim Wise Cork Inspire
Amorim Wise Cork Inspire is formed of an easy to install 7mm thick glue-down 2G Click Floor System. A non-PVC multilayer is designed around a cork rigid core to provide all the comforts of cork within a reinforced flooring.
Its waterproof design is the perfect choice where one floor finish is required throughout, perhaps in open plan or studio developments, to include kitchen and bathroom. Ideal where the existing floor surface is to be retained, and floor to ceiling heights are restricted.
Sustainability
Cortiça – Quercus Suber – is the bark of the cork oak, one of the most sustainable materials known to man.
Whereas solid or engineered timber flooring requires the felling of trees, with cork, no trees are felled. In fact, a cork tree can live for 200 years.
Cork is removed from the tree by ‘stripping’ the bark using axes, a process carried out every 9 years. Once removed from the tree the cork bark is stacked in the open air for around 6 months. It is then used to make a range of products from cork flooring to components in space rockets.
Cork harvesting is a labour intensive and highly skilled process. Knowledge that is handed down from one generation to the next, and forming a backbone to Portugal’s rural way of life. Some 9,000 direct jobs and at least 6,500 indirect jobs are supported as a result of cork and the agroforestry system. Generations of people are encouraged to settle in their rural communities, halting depopulation. Additionally, cork harvesting encompasses the industries of livestock, beekeeping and the production of aromatic and medicinal plants and mushrooms. Cork encompasses many areas of sustainability.
Cork products
Bark from the cork oak not used for cork wine stoppers is broken down to a fine grain and used in the manufacturing of a wide range of products, including cork flooring, cork toys, cork objects and products.
